Kenny's Story
"I was number 13 of 15 kids. I grew up in a little town called Monkey River Town, southern Belize. One of the my earliest childhood memories was of my aunt, who didn't really have any legs - no, she did have legs, but being of Indian decent (not Mayan, but from India) she was very short and had really long hair. When she sat on a stool, which is what we considered a Kneading Bowl, made from the buttress root of a tree, her skirt covered up her legs. El Progresso Solar Instalation
In late July, a TWAW hosted a group made up of two different churches in New Mexico-- First Baptist Church Carlbad, NM and Bethel Baptist Church Roswell, NM. The team had raised money to purchase and install a solar panel system for a school in the Cayo district of Belize--El Progresso Government School. The parts were purchased and sent to Belize on a shipping container, the team arrived and was ready to go. There was only one problem, the computer systems that the Port of Belize use to clear containers went down and our container was locked in the Port. In the end, the container was release on the second to last work day of the trip! This gave the team one day to install the solar panels, battery bank, inverter, etc. [more]

Unloading a container in Belize
Before Christmas TWAW sent two containers to Belize. I asked our volunteers in Belize to capture the moment with pictures to give our supporters a taste of what it's like to unload a shipping container. This particular container had lots of heavy things on it. We loaded the back of the container with a forklift. But Kenny had arranged for help, and our good friend Francis Woods came with a front-end loader and help from the prison. [more]
