El Progresso Solar Instalation
In late July, a TWAW hosted a group made up of two different churches in New Mexico-- First Baptist Church Carlbad, NM and Bethel Baptist Church Roswell, NM. The team had raised money to purchase and install a solar panel system for a school in the Cayo district of Belize--El Progresso Government School. The parts were purchased and sent to Belize on a shipping container, the team arrived and was ready to go. There was only one problem, the computer systems that the Port of Belize use to clear containers went down and our container was locked in the Port. In the end, the container was release on the second to last work day of the trip! This gave the team one day to install the solar panels, battery bank, inverter, etc.
As you can imagine, the temptation in such times would be to complain, worry, and blame. Instead, this team demonstrated the Holy Spirit's work in their lives by being patient and trusting that God would work everything out exactly as it should. They worked hard--first installing light fixtures and electrical outlets in the classrooms and running the wire that would eventually connect the whole system to the power source.
Finally, when we were finally able to get our hands on the solar system and install it, we were graciously helped by a Slivan Kuffer from Solar Energy Solutions Belize. Mr. Kuffer walked us through the whole process, provided much needed tools, materials, and expertise--donating about half his time to the project, and working with us all day.
A great team and a great project! TWAW hopes that this trip to the village of El Progresso will be the first of many.
