Sewing Co-op in Belize City

In an impoverished community in Belize City many single mothers struggle to provide for their families.  Local business men and Word at Work partner, Pedro Perez and his wife, Maria, saw these desperate needs and knew they had to help in some way.  They along with their church, Centro Vision Misionera of Belize, came up with a program.

This program will equip these mothers with skills to provide a service to those around them, produce income for their families, and most importantly, minister to their spiritual needs.  A four month course is being offered with 2 classes a week to teach women everything from basic to advanced sewing skills.  Each class begins with a devotional using scripture, examples and testimonies for life application. In March 2010 a team of seamstresses from Texas spent a week helping to facilitate these classes.  This team showed up with more sewing machines and moneymaking project ideas. Several meetings were held and plans were made for making great strides in the sewing ministry.

The women learned to sew scarves, skirts, blouses and many other items.  Even the children were joining in the lessons.  It was an incredible week for all and the last night was overflowing with the HOLY SPIRIT as these women prayed aloud in Spanish their individual prayers for the team.
