Saturday October 24th, WORDSTOCK Festival: Food, Fun the Blues!

A Party to Celebrate The Word At Work's 6 Years of Service to Belize

Amarillo, Texas. The WORDSTOCK Festival and Fundraiser launches The Word at Work'sinaugural celebration of achievement in service to the people of Belize on Friday evening October 24th at Wildcat Bluff Nature Center with great food and live music.

The outdoor festival kicks off next Friday evening at the Wildcat Bluff Nature Center, 2301 N. Soncy Road, Amarillo at 6:30PM with a good 'ole Texas BBQ dinner. Walk through the silent auction filled with unique one of-a-kind photographs, artwork, jewelry and more. At 7:30 Clovis, New Mexico's Billy Borden kicks off the night of live music followed by 4 hours of rocking blues from West of Memphis, the house band from the House of Blues restaurant in San Diego.  An entire night of food, fun and the Blues for a $10 admission fee with drinks sold at the bar. Any and all profits from the event will go to support the operating expenses of TWAW.

Launched as an independent nonprofit ministry in 2002, The Word at Work (TWAW) began from the ministry of 1st Presbyterian Church of Amarillo in the mid-1990's to serve the impoverished nation of Belize in Central America. And TWAW has a lot to celebrate.  In six years of service TWAW has:

*Delivered over $8.0 million in humanitarian support, medical supplies and aid,

*Brought over 800 people from the USA to Belize on short-term mission trips,

*Helped build, repair and fund the construction of 7 orphanages, 6 churches, 3 schools, and over 25 houses for widows and families,

*Donated over a dozen cars, vans and buses, including 3 fully functional ambulances for the Belize City Emergency Rescue Team and a Mobile Medical Clinic,

*Raised scholarship funds to send over 200 children to school (Belize does not have a public school system),

*Arranged for several Belizeans to come to Amarillo for emergency operations not available in Belize,

*And the list goes on, and on, and on.

"In a very real way this party is a great big 'Thank You!' to everyone in the region who has partnered with us in the regeneration of lives and communities in Belize.  Our successes are directly attributed to the sacrifice and support of everyone who has donated their time, talents and financial resources, allowing us to show and share God's love with the less fortunate." says Tim Tam, Executive Director of the locally headquartered ministry. "We'd love to see a huge turnout.  Whether you're a long-time major supporter, or if you've never heard of us before, everyone is welcome.  Enjoy the food, fire and listen to the blues. Stroll through the silent auction and check out our displays explaining more about what we do.  We are really looking forward to a great time of fun, food and music."
